WPA Wireless Network Security

Google

WPA wireless network security has been the standard for wireless network encryption and authentication since 2002, when it superseded WEP (wireless equivalent privacy).

If your home or office wireless network still uses WEP for authentication and encryption, replace it today and increase your level of laptop security. WPA is a requirement for achieving any level of wireless router security.

In the absence of adequate wireless router security it's possible for total strangers to tap into a PC or network and record passwords, account numbers ... anything. Furthermore, these details can be recorded 24x7 from a remote location. To see an example: Click Here!

If you haven't set up a router before don't be too concerned. It just takes a little patience. Most brands of router now provide a browser based wizard that will step users through the setup process.

Important Points

  • SSID is the name you give your network. Be original, but don't try and bring attention to the network. Tick the option to conceal your SSID.
  • There will be an option to choose between WEP and WPA, go for WPA.
  • Pass phrase, think of something strong, at least 40 characters.

Router manufacturers typically don't provide adequate set up instructions. In particular wireless security is an area they neglect. If you lack the time or patience to become a wireless guru check out Network Magic. It's provides an easy way to get WPA up and running.
